What is search engines?

Search engine is basically websites that allows us to search for the things we are looking for from millions of websites that exist in the world of internet. The examples of search engines are Google, Yahoo, Altavista , MSN etc.

How do we search?

Well, It is actually pretty simple. We just have to type the keywords for the things we are looking for. For example, if we want to find out about today’s weather forecast, we just need to type “ Weather Forecast “ in the website. The first result would be the one that matches the most with the keyword. This kind of search is the most simple method but it has less precisions. We might not find the one we wanted from the first results.

Searching for something on search engines requires certain skills to get more precise result. There are several ways to do so. In this report we will show some examples how to get much more precise results on search engines. We will use WWW.GOOGLE.COM as an example.

The methods :
- We’ll start with the easy one. How to find out about the weather forecast?
Search strategy : Type in [ Weather Forecast ]

- Search for armchairs on Ikea’s site.
Search strategy : Type in [ armchair site:ikea.com ]

- What are some home remedies for getting rid of ants ?
Search strategy : Type in [ rid ants home remedy ]

- Google provides spelling correction. If we type in the wrong spelling of a keywords. Google would give a suggestion above the results. For example, if you type Natoinal. Google will give a suggestion like this : Did you mean “ National “

- Restrict your search to France and search for pages in English on the war in Iraq
Search strategy : Use Google Language Tools to restrict the query [ war Iraq ] to pages located in France that are written in English.

- Translation. Translate “ I wish to mail a package. Where is the nearest post office? Thank you.” Into Spanish.
Search strategy : Use Google’s Language Tools Translate text feature.Select “English to Spanish” and click on the Translate button.

These applications are broadly divided into the following categories: Software as a Service (SaaS), Utility Computing, Web Services, Platform as a Service (PaaS), Managed Service Providers (MSP), Service Commerce, and Internet Integration. The name cloud computing was inspired by the cloud symbol that is often used to represent the Internet in flow charts and diagrams.”[6]

Design of Our Own PC

Theme and purposes: The design and the specification of this PC are basically intended for the game freaks. All the specifications required are designed to be the cheapest alternative that can be chosen for the game purposes. By obtaining this kind of specification on your computer, hopefully there won’t be any problems when playing PC-Games, even the most complicated one. From this kind of PC, many features can be obtained. All the components are picked up based on the quality each of them has. The outer design is picked up based on the special design I want to focus on which is simple and elegant, that is the reason I chose black as the main color.

1. PROCESSOR

The Intel Core 2 Duo processors are built in several of the world’s most advanced, high-volume output manufacturing facilities using Intel’s leading silicon process technology. The processor family is based on the revolutionary Intel Core micro-architecture, designed to provide powerful yet energy-efficient performance. With the power of dual cores, or computing engines, the processors can manage numerous tasks faster. They also can operate more smoothly when multiple applications are running, such as writing e-mails while downloading music or videos and conducting a virus scan.

I chose this type of processor from Intel rather than any other processors, especially from the AMD product because there are more benefits that I can get from this product. Compared to the AMD processor, this Intel processor is a little bit more expensive, but in performance while operating, this Intel product is faster and cooler. This Intel processor is creating less heat in the CPU casing which is so important to reduce the chances of damaging the other CPU components. For the choice of picking up The Intel Core 2 Duo itself is because this type of processor is relatively cheaper than the other type from the same brand, but I still consider the quality that this product offered. We chose this product because it has been well acknowledged that the compatibilities of this product is more guaranteed than the new type of processor that the compatibility rates are still lower than the old one.

2. MOTHERBOARD

One most important thing we have to notice before choosing any kind of motherboard for our computer is the type of socket that the processor has. We have to choose the same socket for the motherboard. Otherwise, the processor and the motherboard will not be suited for each other. In this case the socket is LGA775.

This motherboard supports next-generation SATA hard drives based on the SATA 3Gb/s storage specification. It provides convenient connectivity to external home theater audio systems via coaxial and optical S/PDIF-out jacks. It allows you to transfer digital audio without converting to analog format and keeps the best signal quality.

3. HARDISK

4. RAM

Dual channel ram means there are two ram pipelines to the cpu to try and help the bottleneck caused by the system bus.

5. VGA CARD

The specification of the VGA Card and the motherboard has to be the same, which is PCI-Express. If it is not the same the PC won’t be able to be operated.

6. MONITOR

I pick up this model and this type for the monitor of my PC because they are supporting the theme of the PC, I want to create which is simple and elegant. The LCD model from LG brand is really simple, thin, and that makes it look really elegant which is very suitable with the CPU casing which both of them are in black color. The size of the screen of this LCD is also supporting the game purposes. This LCD has about 22 inch wide screen, which means it can perform really well in presenting the quality of graphic in your computer.

7. CASING

For the CPU Casing, we pick up from the brand of ASUS because we are considering about the price and the quality that the product offer at the same time. There are many other brand that offers nearly the same quality but in higher price. So that is why I chose ASUS CPU Casing. The color of this CPU Casing is also black, which is to suit the other components’ color. The power supply is already available on the CPU Casing, which has electricity capacity 600 Watt to supply the electricity power throughout every little component in the CPU. I choose the 600 W power supply because I consider the electricity power requires to operate the components in the CPU therefore the PC will able to operate.

8. DVD RW

The optical drive is already DVD RW because of the capabilities and the price it offers. The color is also black and the speed of burning and reading DVD is already 24x and the technology is already SATA compatible.

9. KEYBOARD AND MOUSE

Both the keyboard and the mouse are wireless, this is intended to operate the computer easier. The color is also black and I choose to buy the keyboard and the mouse in a package in purpose to obtain lower price rather than buy both of them one by one.

10. SPEAKER

The VS4121blk system gets a lot of its power from a long-throw subwoofer that pushes serious bass reproduction into the room. But the down-firing midrange drivers in each speaker are what really make the difference. The sound that it is produced is very strong which is very good for gaming purposes.

Basically there are so many similarities on the components in the computer and in the laptop. The differences are the size of the components, in laptop, the components are much smaller in size (dimension) and the weight of the components are much lighter than the ones in the computer. Here are the types of components on a laptop;

Next is about the motherboard, The motherboard is a printed circuit board (PCB) that contains and controls the components that are responsible for processing data.

The motherboard contains the CPU, memory, and basic controllers for the system. The motherboard has a Real-time clock (RTC), ROM BIOS, CMOS RAM, RAM sockets, bus slots for attaching devices to CPU sockets, cache RAM slots, jumpers, keyboard controller, interrupts, internal connectors, and external connectors.

VGA card is one of the hardware that work as the output source for the monitor, speakers or interact with the network. While the hard disk drive is a permanent storage area for data and the programs used to create the data. There are two types of hard disk that can be set onto the computer. They are the internal and the external hard disks. The difference is that the external is set outside the computer that is connected by a USB cable. The internal hard disk is set inside the CPU, connected to all the other hardwares inside the computer.

The optical driver has so many types, the types are based on the format of the discs that the driver work on. The optical drive can work as a disc burner or disc player. Many new types of optical drives are being invented, one of the most recent was the blue-ray driver.

RAM is a hardware that can make the computer work faster if the specification of the RAM is good. The better specifications that the RAM has, the faster of the computer’s operation can be done. There is a value of the memory in a RAM that is basically used as the guide tio pick up which specification that is better.

LAN stands for Local Area Network, this facility can connect from one computer to another computer in a small range. This facility is supported by a special cable to be connected from one to the other computers.

The importance of learning hardware on a computer is that we can fix problems in our hardware by ourselves, besides that we can understand more about the mechanism of hardware in a computer. Therefore, we can learn about the basic technology in a computer from time to time.

How Computer Changes Our Life

As we all know that many aspects can influence our daily life. One of the biggest aspects is technology, especially the multimedia technology, such as the computer. People may be more familiar by the name of ‘PC’ or ‘Personal Computer’. Computer itself has many forms, which the most famous ones are the notebook (the portable one) or ‘PC’ (not portable one). Computer had influenced the human’s life in many ways, directly or indirectly. Firstly, computer influences our life in making all the things we have to do easier and simpler by using computer. For example for the academic purposes, we can do and submit assignments easier by computer to our lecturers. This can save more time than when we do assignments manually. Other influence is that computer can help us communicate with people that is separated from us far away which is hard to get in touch manually. But with computer we can communicate with them fast, easily, and simply. We can communicate with them as if there wasn’t any distance in between.

But it is not like there are only good influences that come from computer, but there are also bad influences that are caused from the computer. Many of them had been occurring lately. Mostly the bad influences caused pornography, violence, rumors, gossips, etc. Those social problems are really making the public become influenced too. The worst is that the public are influenced not in a good way, but in a really bad way. This can affect many other further matters which can damage the social circumstance in our life.

Computer can also make us become lazy, because of its easiness and effectiveness rather than if we do something manually. This is also can prevent us from being an intelligent person and even it can make us dumb and addicted to the computer and we can do nothing in our life without computer. Computer also can entertain us in many ways, by performing many thing on it. Many services that have been put onto the computer’s specification, such as the music-player, video-player and by using the internet service, we can do many other things that can entertain us.

In conclusion, we can say that computer has two different sides of judgement, the good one and the bad one. It depends on the people that use it. Good people will use it in good ways, and bad people will use it in bad ways too. But I think there should be a law that regulates the use of computer so that there won’t be anymore people that use computer for bad purposes and therefore, there won’t be any further and more serious matters that are caused by the bad use of computer. People also have to be more concern about the use of computer.
